The European Commission has approved Liberty Media’s acquisition of Dorna Sports without conditions, following an in-depth investigation of the proposed transaction. Liberty Media, known for its stakes in media, sports, and entertainment companies, will leverage its expertise to boost MotoGP’s popularity and appeal. The acquisition includes buying 86% of Dorna Sports for approximately $4.2 billion, with Dorna’s top management retaining the remaining 14%. News of this acquisition, first announced in April 2024, was delayed due to the European Commission’s concerns about competition and market dominance. With this final approval, both companies aim to work together to expand the MotoGP World and strengthen their presence in the racing industry.
